This service is completely free and our guests aren’t expected to host any events.
Our tea parties are a chance for a change of scenery and regular afternoons of conversation and laughter with friends of all ages. You will even be taken there and home again so don’t need to worry about organising travel.
At Re-engage, we work within your local community to set up regular social gatherings for small groups of people and most of them are just like you – aged 75 or over and hoping to find new ways to get out and about in a way that suits them at this time of life. Small groups of people get together for social events within their community. The same group meets each month so guests and volunteers find themselves making long term friendships. Everyone looks forward to seeing each other and catching up. Our groups usually meet on Sunday afternoons. We have volunteers who host most of the events in their houses, providing a warm, welcoming environment. We sometimes meet in other venues, too, like community halls, hotels, museums and even the odd fire station!
You’ll be warmly welcomed by your event host and invited in for conversation and a cuppa with the rest of the group. Our hosts will provide some light refreshments for you all to enjoy. Our events last for a couple of hours and at the end, you’ll be driven home by your volunteer driver.
We have hundreds of groups across the UK and we’re always looking to develop new ones. If we don’t currently work in your area, please keep an eye on our website to stay up to date as we expand into new areas in the future.
If you or someone you know would benefit from joining one of our groups, we’d love to hear from you. Anyone can refer an older person to us – whether you’re a friend, relative, neighbour, GP, social care professional or charity. Please get in touch using our freephone telephone number 0800 716 543 to find out more and refer a guest to us.
