Like many organisations during the pandemic, Barrhead Burgh Band struggled for musicians, with loss of membership threatening to bring an end to its two-century long history. Determined to keep the music playing, and under the leadership of a new Musical Director, a recruitment drive helped to encourage new musicians to join. Since then, regular band rehearsals have helped to bring the sound of brass band music back to Barrhead.
BBB members are keen to use this momentum by encouraging and enabling as many local players as possible to pick up their instruments and come along to a rehearsal. Many of the band’s members have been active in the brass banding world since their school years, though several have returned to their instruments after a break of several decades.
For those who no longer have access to an instrument, the band has a limited collection of instruments available on loan to help new members get them back into the swing of playing. BBB is keen to improve their instrument library and has put out a call for any donations of unwanted brass band instruments in good condition, which would be gratefully received. Anyone wishing to donate a brass band instrument is encouraged to contact the band via its Facebook page or drop to it off during a rehearsal session.
The band rehearse on Tuesday nights from 7.30-9.30pm in the Bourock Church Hall.
