About the role

We are seeking a kind, patient, and reliable volunteer to support a visually impaired lady with her monthly grocery shopping. The volunteer will meet the client at her home in Clarkston and accompany her to The Avenue Shopping Centre, Newton Mearns, where she shops at ASDA and Marks & Spencer for gluten-free food items.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys supporting others, has attention to detail, and is confident communicating clearly and calmly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Collect the person from her home in Clarkston once per month

Travel together to The Avenue Shopping Centre, Newton Mearns

Assist with grocery shopping at ASDA and M&S, with a focus on gluten-free products

Clearly read and explain food labels, ingredients, and packaging

Help locate and select the correct items as directed by the person

Assist with carrying shopping

Ensure the person feels safe, supported, and respected throughout the outing

Return the person home after shopping is completed

VOLUNTEER SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Kind, patient, and dependable

Comfortable supporting someone with a visual impairment

Able to clearly read and interpret food labels and packaging

Good communication skills

Volunteer with access to a car preferred, but volunteers confident using public transport and carrying shopping will also be considered

Flexible and supportive approach

Minimum age 18

VOLUNTEER TRAINING

The Volunteer will receive continuous support from the Volunteer Coordinator, which includes one-on-one meetings and regular communication via email and telephone.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers to learn new skills and build their confidence.

Volunteers are encouraged to voice any concerns they may have with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding the support they provide.
